VoIP Phones

Staying in touch via a normal landline phone is NOT the cheapest method of staying in touch.  However, over the last few years a lot of new companies have started offering VoIP (Talk over the internet) service in the UK.  With a VoIP phone you can call internationally for a fraction of what it used to cost.

After signing up for a service and installing a little hardware the service works just like a traditional phone. Other services will work with your existing touch tone phone.  Both types will let you call your friends’ or family’s home and mobile phones.

Some of the services will need a broadband connection to work, but the people you call will need neither a modem nor broadband.

Girl with a VoIP phone“Local" VoIP Numbers

To make it cheap for your friends to contact you, you can set up a VoIP phone number in your old home country and forward the calls to a VoIP phone or a PC.

This type of service cost as little as £10 per year and will allow you to have “local number” that our friends can call for a local rate.

The £10 payment will typically include the rental of the phone number for a year and the cost of forwarding all the phone calls to your new VoIP phone/computer in the UK.
