Finding a Property

The following information is to help you understand the process of renting a property in the UK and guide you through the process of taking up a tenancy to a property and to the expectations, which are usual in a relationship between a tenant and a Landlord.

The Search

In most areas of the UK there is a good stock of rental properties, generally more unfurnished properties are available than furnished. It is easier to rent a property for an initial six months, rentals of less than six months are not so readily available and such properties will be much more expensive.

Generally most rentals periods are one year with options to renew for further years.

Smaller House

The first step is to select the area, in which you wish to live, consider the location by proximity to work and schools etc.

Think of the type of property in which you wish to live, important requirements such as number of bedrooms, your maximum monthly rental budget, and whether you wish the property to be furnished or unfurnished.

While there are a wide variety of rental properties in the UK, it is important to remember that no matter where you are coming from, properties in Britain are not like those in your home country and some compromise on desired property features is often necessary. It is important to think about the desired features you are looking for in a home e.g. wooden floor, fully fitted modern kitchen, and bathrooms etc.

You may see a property on the Internet in which you are interested. It is important to know, that most internet listings are not updated on a regular basis. Through our experience, we have learned that most people often are better protected if they rent properties through a recognised letting agent, rather than directly from a landlord.
