Moving Checklist
The Moving checklist should be used to ensure that you do not forget any of the practical matters when you plan your relocation.
If you use a relocation company or a shipping company, there is a good chance that they will have a checklist not too dissimilar to this one that alos include country specific information.

Two to Three Months Before Your Relocation |

1. If you do not use a relocation company; start looking for a shipping company who can help you get your things to the UK |
|
|
2. Check if the company offers any discounts
|
|
|
3. Get a few quotes before deciding which company to use
|
|
|
4. Double check any moving/shipping insurance they might offer. If they don’t, get your own insurance
|
|
|
5. Make a list of all your things so you can ensure that you have not left anything behind
|
|
|
One to Two Months Before Your Relocation |

1. Confirm the date of your move |
|
|
2. If you're renting, notify your landlord of your moving date |
|
|
3. Notify the relevant utility companies of your departure |
|
|
4. Start getting rid of possessions you no longer need. Decide which items can be taken to a charity shop, sold at car boot sale, or offered to your friends |
|
|
5. If you need new furniture or carpets - order them now and arrange delivery for when you move in |
|
|
6. Ensure you know the rules for bringing pets into the UK |

|
A Few Weeks Before Your Relocation |

1. Start packing non-essential items such as books and non-seasonal clothes into boxes
|
|
|
2. De-register from your doctor, dentist, and optician etc. |
|
|
3. Visit the post office and arrange for your post to be forwarded |
|
|
4. Make a list of everyone who should know about your move. Send them your new UK international address |
|
|
5. If you do not use a relocation company:
|
|
|
Finalise arrangements with your shipping company. Confirm arrival times and make sure your movers have directions to your new home |
|
|
Book extra storage space if required.
|
|
|
Arrange a time to collect the keys for your new home
|
|
|
Notify the bank of any changes to outgoing payments.
|
|
|
Check your home insurance - make sure you have cover from the day you move in to your new home.
