Know Your Area
Learning your way around and the everyday names for places are important to your British neighbours as it indicates that you are interested in their way of life and local areas. Besides, not knowing your way around makes you standout as a tourist.
Not only will learning your way around show that you are settling, it will also make you travel around your local area. In doing so you may even find new places you did not know existed and thus open up your social life even further.
A good example of what you should Not Do in London is always taking the tube instead of busses or walking. When yours truly initially relocated to London I used to take the tube everywhere, even from Leicester Square to Piccadilly Circus.
