Primary Schooling – Key Stages 1 & 2

The majority of the pupils (around 90%) go to publicly funded schools usually known as the state schools. These schools do not charge fees.

At primary level the classes are of mixed ability and the curriculum is taught by a class teacher. The class teacher is a primary education specialist rather than a subject specialist.

School ChildrenKey Stage 1 and 2 are the term for years of schooling in maintained schools in England and Wales normally known as Year one to four, when pupils are aged between 5 and 11.

  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Design Technology
  • History
