What do you normally do after work? What do you do with your weekends? Are you engaging in any form of activity that can help you meet people? If not, you should put on your friendship making cap and get started!
Making new friends requires an effort on your part. However, being a foreigner in the UK actually helps and with a little effort and engagement it is not too difficult to become friends with locals and be welcomed into their social circle. People are generally very accepting of newcomers and are often proud to introduce them to British customs and ways of life.
Regardless of where you are from, there is a good chance that your social customs and traditions will be different from those of the British. They love their sports, betting, pubs, and theatre. They also love discussions about almost anything including the weather or politics and enjoy friendly banter. Be warned, most have a very particular sense humour.
As a foreigner it is not always easy to understand all that is going on. And as worldly as the British are, most of them will probably not know too much about your culture. Because of this the British can therefore at times come across a little crude. However, you can rest assured that they never mean to hurt anyone’s feelings or good intentions. So just get in there and start socialising.
